Orange - The Jewelry

Padparadscha is a pinkish orange sapphire from exotic destinations like Sri Lanka. In it’s true form it is rare, precious and expensive. Thanks to modern jewelry technology it can be man-made.

Emitations has these darling Orange Sapphire Stud Earrings (X13-40236OR) for $24.99. I love the checkerboard cut which gives them a lovely texture and helps to capture and direct light. Because they are an unusual shade I can see them garnering lots of attention.

A little pricer and not as deep is color is this handmade bracelet designed and made by Elaine Haydon Jewelry. This Carnelian Fringe bracelet is $57. Carnelian beads are manufactured from carnelian quartz that is mined from India. This bracelet is loaded with beads to hug your delicate wrist.

Both are my faves today.

Orange - The Top (s)

Yes, I’m still in summer mode today. It’s hard for me to think about fall clothing when I can’t move without sweating. When I went searching for orange today, I decided to hit up Torrid as I’m feeling kind of fun-ky and Torrid is good to deliver.

I actually found two tops you should check out. Both of them are complete steals!

The first is this classy crossover halter that is accented with orange and a bit of green. Doesn’t it make you feel lucky (you have to have a closer looker to get my pun)? It’s a combination of orange, navy, red and olive. It is hand wash but for the price it’s small and won’t take much time. And besides after a few hand washes and wears you can make a delicate cycle attempt and still feel you’ve gotten your use from it at $15 should something terrible happen.

The next one is an even bigger steal at $4! Yes, it’s on clearance. This rust orange spandex cami is perfect as is for summer or for layering under a black jacket or cardigan when it gets cooler. Its soft, stretchy and tagless so no picking at your back. And it’s really long so you know when you tuck it in it’s going to stay put. This one is machine washable.

Happy shopping!

Fashion Trends for 2008

The king of fashion forecasting, David Wolfe, has presented his prediction of “big trends” for 2008. He sees “a repetition of themes, a focus on vintage, and a heavy influence from the past.”

Forecasters are also expecting a splurge of “bright colors like neon yellows and cobalt blue” and “organic cottons and materials made of re-purposed polyester and bamboo to create their collections”.

You can read more about it in Forbes article 10 Fashion Trends You Can’t Ignore by Hitha Prabhakar. Make sure you check out the in pictures section to get a visual of the article’s predictions.

After you are finished there surf over to Paisley Babylon Vintage for some hip and retro dresses.

Orange - The Dress

I’m feeling summerery today. It actually felt like the beginning of the season. It was quite warm and humid. But the cool nights are a great indicator of the pending changes and the I’m starting to see a hint in the trees of fall. The continued warm weather still has me in summer mode though so it’s not surprising that today’s favorite pick has a warm summer feeling to it.

When I was over at Big on Batik I found this great off the shoulder smock dress in orange (of course) with white floral pattern for $75.

It’s a beautiful fun dress for the remaining warm days of summer. It even comes with a convenient wrap should you get chilly. It has a flattering cut and shows off a lot of skin without being vulgar or too plunging (there’s always time for that later!).

As the description says it’s great for picnics and outdoor parties. And of course it has one of my favorite features: it’s washable. It’s made of rayon so it’s guaranteed to be soft and silky on your summer-ized skin. It is a one size fits many cut for 1x-4x. I expect it’s probably made on the small side though. And if you’re not keen on or-ange it comes in a variety of other colors.

Orange - The Bag

We are at week six and according to our schedule Orange is the next color on our list. I don’t know what it is about age and colors, it seems the older I get the more I love bolder colors. It’s true orange has never looked good on me. I remember having an orange t-shirt in highschool and my girlfriends razzing me about it because my face would literally reflect it. It was horrible. Luckily, orange has come a long way since then!

Today I have for you an awesome tote bag from Baghaus. I’m growing quite fond of their bags. This little sucker is huge at 11 x 15 inches and 5 inches wide. It’s inspired by vintage Chloe (the French fashion house, not the x-rated star).

I love, love, love this one so it’s listed as one of my favorites for this week. My one disappointment is the handles are not longer or they didn’t add a shoulder strap but I can overlook it because the color is so hot.

Purple - The Bag

I’m so all about not being practical this week. I was over at The Bag Lady (because my friend Keris writes there occasionally) and I came across this Lanvin suede evening bag from a London boutique called Browns. It is so unpractical at £755.00 which converts to $1,520.10 U.S.($1,599.04 CAN).

The color is so deep it doesn’t even look purple to me but there it is in the description: purple. After reading up on Pamela Anderson the last few weeks, if I had the money to buy this, I’d feel guilty about buying this 100% leather giftie. But it is simply gorgeous.

The more I adore this image the more I begin to think of breasts. Doesn’t it kind of look like a pair? Maybe it’s Pamela’s fault. Regardless, between it’s shape and the lovely handle it is very unique looking purple bag, even down to the strap and closure.

According to the customer faq’s Brown’s delivers pretty much world wide. Go crazy!

Who ever said diamonds were a girl’s best friend obviously has not visited Ice. Diamonds are nice but they are soooo… cliche! Unless we are talking about an engagement ring, darling.

I found this great Amethyst and Chalcedony necklace for $95. I like how delicate it looks and I’ve always been a fan of Amethyst (I am from Amethyst country after all). This combination is casual enough for everyday wear but has enough sparkle to brighten up the blackest dress at dinner table.

Ice currently offers free shipping on orders $150 or more making it a good opportunity to invite a friend over to shop with you!

Purple - The Lingerie

Nothing makes a great top look better than a bra that fits properly. Nothing makes a woman feel more luscious than a pretty bra. I don’t know what it is about a pretty bra but every woman should make a point of owning at least one. My friend Lana makes a point of owning a whole dresser full. I’m not as addicted as Lana is but I do like a well made bra that’s easy on the eyes.

One of my favorite online lingerie shops for plus size women is Hips and Curves. This embroidered lace bra definitely fills the bill for this weeks purple lingerie reverie.

Part of having a good shape is having an under wire bra to control curves. This one has wide straps to reduce the dreaded dig. I especially like the scalloped edge that would highlight any wearer’s cleavage.

This purple bra is available in sizes 38B - 48DD There are some double D sizes but no triples or fuller. This is a pretty and affordable bra for $23.95.

Purple - The Shoes

Ok, I need to preface with, I WOULD NEVER WEAR THESE. But… they are flipping awesome! Don’t they just scream Betty Page meets Purple Avenger? Maybe not but they are hot and a whole lot of fun. I would love to have these, even if only to play with them a little. I’d throw away my slippers for these.

Betsey Johnson rocks! Who’s Betsey? She’s the fashion designer behind these pumps with attitude. These satin shoes with clear 3 1/2 inch Lucite heels give a girl some high altitude to go with her attitude. The round toe at least provides a little more comfort despite the elevation. The heart on the under side of the shoe is a nice touch that doesn’t distract from the silky appearance of the shoe and matches the rhinestone heart under the toe bow.

Dorothy’s ruby slippers never looked this good. And what a bargain for $199.99. Ok, I’m sure it’s a bargain for someone.

Purple - The Dress

Now here’s a power color. Purple has often been used by royalty and of course the Pope. Online plus size shop Alight has this delightful Sushi Kimono Dress for $66.00 in berry. It’s berry purple. Too bad they didn’t steam it for the picture!

The square neck and 3/4 angel sleeves are very flattering. The tie back waist helps to give it some shape. Not surprising, this embroidered number comes from India. It is currently available in 1x and 3x although Alight normally deals in size 0x-5x.

It would look great as is or paired over black denims. Or as I mentioned last week, the complimentary color for green is purple. I would go on the deeper side though.

Have a berry good day!
