Duo Scarf Top

One of the things I wish clothing had is more versatility. Now, I know if I put some thought into I can make any piece I want versatile but some mornings I just don’t want to think about it. Plus size designer Igigi’s Duo Scarf Top is right up my alley:

The correct name is Mademoiselle Silk Scarf Top in Purple. Besides purple being a great power color, you get one top and two scarfs creating two completely different looks. This top comes in sizes 12 – 32 for $62. A reasonable price for two looks (more if you consider the different ways to tie the scarf). And if you have any rectangle scarfs of your own they could be used too. That’s what I mean by versatile.

Delta Burke Swimsuits

The Delta Burke swimsuit has been a long time running successful line for plus size women. The Designing Woman who has been spending most of her days on Broadway has a new line of suits for spring and Always for Me is offering a limited edition tote bag to go with each purchase.

I took a gander at the offerings and what I found was a small selection of practical swim dresses. I have to say that the Crossroads Color Block Swimdress is by far my favorite. It comes in sizes 16 – 24 for $98. I like the “tennis dress sportiness” of this swimsuit that makes it comfortable to wear out of the pool as well as in the pool.

This plus size swimsuit and lingerie company also carries Carol Weir, It Figures, Longitude, Miracle Suit, Speedo, Christina and their very own Always for Me trendy line.

Win a $50 Gift Card from Lane Bryant

Last week I mentioned that Lane Bryant introduced a new bra to their Cacique line. Now is your chance to make this sexy Push Up Demi Bra yours. The folks at Lane Bryant are graciously offering a $50 gift card to one lucky Favorite Things reader.

As I mentioned before:

It’s being touted as an everyday wear bra that is both lightweight and supportive. It has a little lace on the sides and cool convertible bra straps that allow the wearer to cross the straps in the back.

Currently it’s available in black, sugar, cafe mocha and cloudy day grey; with bamboo, waterloo and Caribbean sea at a later date. The sizes range from 36 C – 44 H with some DDD in between. This bra is selling for $34 – 36.

So now, for the good part. How to win:

To enter this giveaway leave a comment for this post telling us why you think your curves deserve to be pampered by this luscious bra.

The winner will be chosen at random, using random.org, on March 11, 2009 at 3 pm EST. This giveaway is sponsored by Lane Bryant but I will be shipping the prize. This blog giveaway is open to U.S. residents who are 18 years or older. Void where prohibited by law.

Good luck!

UPDATE: The winner was announced in the comments below. Congratulations to Adrienne.

Red Patent Boats

Ever since I read Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Cancer I want a pair of red boots. There’s no logic behind it. It’s pure want.

These Red Patent Denver Boots from Zappos are definitely in the running. They have a nice shape, a bright color and the heel is not to high. The Denvers come in sizes 4 – 14 (in regular, wide, and extra wide) for $99.90.

They’d look great with dress pants, jeans and even that pieced denim skirt I mentioned a few days ago. I love outfits with splashes of color.

If you haven’t heard of Zappos, they specialize in shoes and boots with regular and wide shoes from flat to high and casual to dress.

Plaid Is Where It’s At

Or is it? I’ve reading a lot about celebrities and their penchant for plaid lately but I found it incredibly hard to find some good looking pieces that we could all be proud of. It was incredibly easy to find plaid boxers or sleep pants and cargo shorts for men though. My determination was strong and I found three pieces (not to be worn together, but you know that right) that fall in the fabulous and not frumpy category:

First up is this cute Ruffle Front Plaid Shirt from HSN. There you go, combining two fashion trends — ruffles and plaid! It comes in sizes xs – 3x. Now that’s the way clothing stores should stock their clothing. I love the blue but it also comes in black or khaki. This top costs $59.90.

I found a similar jacket to this Double Breasted Plaid Trench Coat but it was more boxy than I like on a curvy chick. This jacket is from Ashley Stewart and comes in sizes 1x and 2x. It’s listed as a trench coat but this piece is short and tailored enough for the office with the usual black dress pants, preferably wide legged, to show it off. This coat is $49.

Lastly, where would we be without plaid shoes. The first pair I fell in love with were Polo Ralph Lauren high-tops but they were for kids. Disappointing I know! These Gabriella Rocha Mindola are from Zappos and are on sale for $58. They come in standard and wide widths with a leather upper. If you don’t like the purple they have red or green as an option.

And there are my three plaid picks. There’s no reason whatsoever that plus size women can’t take advantage of this fashion trend. Like everything else, not ever piece of plaid is perfect for every woman. You need to find the right plaid that flatters you.

What are your thoughts on wearing plaid this season?

New Push Up Demi Bra from Lane Bryant

Balconette Bra

I’ve been a fan for a few years of plus size clothing company Lane Bryant’s Cacique line (pronounced Ka-seek). In particular, I have a few Smooth Balconette Bras that I hoard. Today Lane Bryant is announcing a new push up demi bra that I’m excited to try.

New Push Up Demi Bra

It’s being touted as an everyday wear bra that is both lightweight and supportive. It has a little lace on the sides and cool convertible bra straps that allow the wearer to cross the straps in the back.

I love the cloudy day grey and am looking forward to seeing what the waterloo and sea colors look like. It’s a very pretty bra.

Pieced Denim Skirt

Denim will never run out of style. And I think it’s virtually impossible to have too many pieces. It has become such an accepted part of our society. I remember the days when denim anything wasn’t allowed to be worn to work and now I see it everywhere. It’s durable, easy to care for and wears well.

This pieced together plus size denim skirt (look closely to see angled lines running down front) from CJ Banks is a great piece for work. It is a little more dressed up than your average skirt with it’s clean line and flared bottom.

It would look excellent with a casual sweater and decorative cami. Flats for the work day and boots for the weekend. Currently it comes in sizes 14 – 20 for $49.50.

Mia Tyler Starts a Revolution

Plus size model and actress, Mia Tyler has never been afraid to shake things up. So it comes to no surprise that she’s starting a revolution. Actually, it’s a clothing line, it just happens to be called Revolution 1228. The 1228 is to represent the sizes it will cover, 12 – 28.

This is a joint venture with pal and designer Victoria Baker-Winfrey. Both Mia and Victoria know the plight of the curvy fashionistas out there and it is their hope to to produce “cool trendy affordable plus size fashions” that please.

At the moment it is in the beginning stages but they have made an official announcement and are looking for ways to raise the $100,000 capital needed to get things off the ground.

They have an interesting start up premise encouraging fans to make donations (anything goes–as low as $5) in exchange for future use coupons, autographed pictures, personal phone calls, a modelling stint, and a personal greet; depending on the amount wagered.

A deadline hasn’t been set but I’m hoping everything falls into place soon. The more plus size clothing designers/manufacturers who actually have a background being plus size and fashionable the better.
