Makeover Madness
It seems like every one is getting a make over this summer and/or heading into fall.
- Venus Diva Mag is evolving, this September it will officially launch Daily Venus Diva with Stephanie Penn-Danforth as the new editor.
- Catherines
/ Lane Bryant
/ FashionBug
– The Charming Shoppes triple threat had a huge renovation on all three of their plus size sites. Probably Fashion Bug’s was the greatest moving from three separate size designations to one size range of 6 to 30. Lane Bryant gave theirs a face lift and added a plus size community to theirs.
- Torrid.com
– This trendy website went a little higher tech with the visual and is easier to use.
- Skorch -They went on a bit of a hiatus near the end of last year but they are back bigger and stronger than ever conducting model searches across the U.S. and preparing for their first print publication December 1st. A one year subscription in the U.S. is $25. Hopefully Canada soon.
- Liz Claiborne
– Their plus size line kind of disappeared last year but now it’s back fresher and brighter than ever along with a better customer friendly site.
If you haven’t been to these places lately I recommend checking out the new digs. Have you noticed any other of your favorite plus size sites getting a makeover?
Fall Colors for Convertible Dress
I have adored the convertible dress since it was released and always look forward to seeing the new colors every season. This fall Monif C introduces the usual red and black but adds cobalt, deep purple, and olive (supposedly one of the hottest colors this fall). The convertible dress is a one size fits 8 to 24. It comes in two lengths, the one seen here for $195 and the floor length for $235. So far they have figured out over twenty styles for the convertible dress. My favorite colors? Cobalt and red.

How Wicked are You
You have got to love a shoe called “Wicked”. These hidden platform shoes immediately caught my eye with their unique shape and 4 3/4″ heels. They were designed by Type Z and are available at Zappos for $69 in sizes 5 to 10. You can drag them out at Halloween, Christmas (oh, Mrs Claus!), and Valentine’s.

Alfani Sandals from Macys
Macy’s has these great Alfani “Ellis” Sandal

If you are in the denim mode between now and August 30th and buy $75 worth of denim you get free shipping (coupon code: DENIM).

60’s Dress at Anna Scholz
I’ve been less than impressed with the Anna Scholz collection this year (probably because of the hideous kaftans). Normally I love her stuff to death. I have only found two things:
This 60s inspired cotton dress in gold is lovely. The description describes it as a little Jackie O (who had wonderful style) and a little go-go — maybe if it were shorter and you added white boots. I think it would be a great career dress or for a Sunday brunch out but definitely without the go-go boots. The dress is currently on sale for £167 and limited to sizes 12 and 18.
The other item is the Frill Trenchcoat in red. Trench coats have been really hot for a few seasons. I love the color on this one and how she’s changed it up by giving it frilled edges for a softer look. This gives it feminine lines without making it look to girly. The color is awesome and the length perfect. This trench coat is currently £250 and comes in a range of sizes from18 to 28.

Shoes Are Big Businesss (and Fun)
The automobile industry may not be doing well on its own but the shoe industry couldn’t be doing better. ABC Nightline recently featured the Zappos work environment on their news piece about unique business practices. Not only is Zappos doing good financially, they are doing great business while retaining happy employees and creating an above average work environment. In the center of it all is the CEO, Tony Hsieh. Watch the 9 minute video for an eye opening look into one shoe business (made me want to move to Kentucky!):
Jimmy Choo Now
If I could have my choice of a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes at this moment they would be the Rhodes Crushed Patent sandal. This is a classic looking professional woman’s shoe. I especially love the tan but wouldn’t turn my nose up at the black. They are currently on sale for £179 at the official Jimmy Choo online boutique.
You know what I think they need to do over at Jimmy Choo? Have a contest, draw, sweepstakes or whatever where one (or ten) lucky winners win a year’s worth of Jimmy Choo shoes — one new pair a month (only because one pair a week would sound too greedy). I would totally enter. How about you?

Plus Size Active Wear
Gardening season will be winding down soon and it will be time to find other activities to fill the void. I signed up for my first Aqua-fit class today. Why aqua fit you ask? I will blame it on Di from the Fat Chic for always tweeting about it. So it has put me into activity mode.
When I was looking for a swimsuit at Junonia I checked out their new arrivals and found this great top to sweat in whether it be power walking, bike riding, or sweating in a class. The QuikWik® Mesh Curved Panel Tee is made with the QuikWik technology that is suppose to keep us drier than the conventional cotton wear (although I still like my cotton). I like the that it has a v-neck too as that helps with feeling cooler while I’m working at raising my body temperature. It is available in sizes 1x to 4x for $69.95.
A matching bottom they have in the “moisture-wicking” vein is the QuikWik® Mesh Dual Layer Short. Perfect for the person with larger thighs who has issues with rubbing and material climbing up on the inside but not on the outside (I hate that look). If you look closely you’ll see the outer layer which would normally creep doesn’t continue around to the inside of the leg. The layered look without the hassle of constantly pulling down the inside of the shorts. The QuikWik® shorts come in sizes XL to 4x for $59.95.
How are you going to increase your activity this fall?
