Plus Size Designers – Kim Camarella-Khanbeigi
Continuing on with another week of plus size clothing designers! This week I’ll start off with another longtime personal favorite — Kim Camarella-Khanbeigi has been dressing women size 0x to 5x since 1996. Her boutique styles are sophisticated and trendy but accessible to the everyday woman. In other words, it will still be fashionable next year. The main focus is the well dressed professional but they have added a great plus size denim line. Kim’s designs can be found at the official Kiyonna website and in specialty boutiques. Recently Kiyonna has transformed their price points to become more accessible during the current economic state.
Here are a few of my current favorites (the pieces shown here range in price from $58 to $88):

Suit It Up
Black suits are reliable and they go with pretty much everything but some times you need a suit that goes beyond black. Like say blue, or camel or brown or ivory! I love this ivory suit from Jones New York. The pieces are sold individually and at the moment Jones New York (which has sizes up to 16) has suiting up to 60% off on select separates plus free shipping on orders $75.

Winter Maternity
Plus size moms-to-be can only manipulate regular plus size clothing for so long — meaning, before they either looked stuffed into their clothes or they look like they are wearing shapeless fabric. These days there are actually plus size maternity clothing available so there is no excuse for not adding a few pieces.
Motherhood Maternity has an affordable plus size section for sizes 1x to 3x; and while there isn’t an exorbitant selection you will probably find a few pieces to get you through the winter. Here are a few of my favorite pieces for winter:

The jacket is $79.99, the shirts are under $35 and the swimsuit is $44.98. Motherhood Maternity also carries the important stuff like maternity bras and midriff shapers in plus sizes.

Top Five 2009 Fashion Picks Under $200
It’s been a tough year for the economy and the clothing industry has followed suit by providing must have pieces that won’t break the bank. If you have a plus size body chances are you tend to spend more than you would like. Here are my top five fashion picks for under $200.
- We Love Colors – Solid Color Leggings, $26
- Lane Bryant – Basic Stretch Cami, $16.50
- Kiyonna – Sweet Ruffle Bellini, $64
- Torrid – Black Faux Suede Knee High Ashley Boots, $62
- Igigi – Black Flower Belt, $28
In fact all five pieces are under $200! On top of that they are guaranteed to co-ordinate with other items in your wardrobe. Making them affordable and functional.
JMS Debuts at Walmart
I was surprised to get an email announcing the release of Just My Size (JMS) fashions at Walmart. I was even more surprised to see the video footage of a recent fashion show in New York. There are some awesome work, party and day to day pieces in there. All in sizes 16 to 28 for $22 or less. JMS is really expanding their offerings. Have a look for yourself:
Several of the pieces from the winter line seen in the fashion show are available now at Just My Size. Two of which I mentioned the other day. Some of the pieces include the Blue Sweater & Scarf Set, the Long Vest with Buckle, Matte Satin Blouse, Top with Sparkly neckline, Quilted Vest, Jeans, and Dress Pants. Items will continue to be added into spring. Unfortunately, the JMS line is only available in Walmarts located in the United States.
Fashion Overdose
This website is one of those unique finds where you there are one or two items you instantly love on one visit but find nothing on the next. It’s very edgy and few people can pull off edgy all the time — the majority of us cannot. That didn’t stop me from spending some time there today. I found to great items that fall more under the trendy banner than the edgy one.
Definitely seeing these pieces on real people is a selling feature because as I clicked through had I only seen the lifeless imagesĀ without the models I wouldn’t have put them in my favorites category. A body gives clothing life.
I love this pink cap sleeve top with bird screening. It comes in sizes 0x and 4x for $37. There are other colors but this pink is my favorite doing the design the best justice.
Then there’s the magenta zig zag skirt in sizes 1x to 3x for $55. Yep, it is fully lined.

Career Wear from Igigi
I’ve always liked Igigi for their special occasion dresses but over the last year they have really been increasing the number of coordinating pieces they offer for career wear (as well as dresses). Here are some of my favorites, all “designed and made in San Francisco, USA” and available in sizes 12 to 32:
The Danielle Top in Royal Blue $54 / Michelle Skirt $62

The Evita Cowl Tunic $58 (also looks great with tucked in with Michelle Skirt)

The Jessica Dress $124

The Ofelia Dress in Parisian Blue $118

The Milano Jacket $124 / Milano Skirt $68

Rocawear Favorites
Rocawear introduced their new arrivals this past week and they have some seriously cute pieces. My absolute favorite is the Courtney Gets Cuffed Skirt (bad name) for $45.99 (currently on sale for $37.49). It is available in sizes 14 to 24. What surprising about this is that I’m not a huge fan of mini skirts but this little denim piece is adorable. I love the detailing on the pockets which reminds me of eyelashes batting, the cuffs and the snaps.

Next up is the Naomi Jacket with it’s pseudo zipper teeth trimmed shawl collar which makes it perfect for balancing pear shaped bodies. Even if I wasn’t pear shaped I’d love this jacket which is nicely fitted in the back. It is available in sizes 1x to 3x for $69.

And finally, the plus size Never Say Never dress. I don’t know what sold me first, the quote or the cut. This dress has a lot of things going on besides all the print. It’s hooded in back, deep neckline, rhinestones quote bubble, rouched sides and cuffs. This dress is available in sizes 1x to 3x for $74. I’m not a huge fan of leggings but I really want to put a pair of leggings that match the rhinestones with this dress.

Autograph Fashion
This new-to-me plus size clothing company in Australia ships to Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the U.S.A (if you live in either of these areas they have an price converter flag that will give you an approximate cost while viewing). They have a pretty little website that wishes to decorate the curves of women size 14 to 26.
At the moment they are offering 30% OFF everything as well as free shipping worldwide for orders $100 or more. They don’t have a huge selection but I did find a few things I liked. The Sleeveless Cargo Vest is $45.99 (not including discount) and these belted jeans for $59.

Anyone every order something from any of the plus size store in Australia?

Plus Size Icons
Lane Bryant introduced their new Icon collection. The pieces offered are supposed to be inspired by the runways of Paris, Milan, and London. Luckily these are more wearable. Most of the pieces are career oriented and have a higher price point, I’m assuming because of their claim of using the finest fabrics. I also think they are trying to latch onto a new niche of shoppers looking for finer clothing. The name and product kind of remind me of Addition-Elle’s regular line and their new Love & Legend released earlier this year. I think their regular customers may bark at the higher price points but boutique shoppers may be drawn in.
There are currently just over twenty pieces but there were a few pieces that really stood out for me:

The cold-shoulder silk blouse is $98 and is available in sizes 14 to 28. The ponte knit pant is $49.50 and available in sizes 14 to 28 (as well as tall and petite). The teardrop earrings are $19.50. The only thing they are missing from their Icon collection is footwear.
