Hip Hugging Boho Skirt

What appeals to me about this skirt first is that it is long; but mostly, it’s figure hugging then it flares out at the bottom to provide balance (visual balance, not physical balance). This pretty little thing can be found at plus size clothing retailer, SWAKdesigns.

It comes in seven other colors besides this one (black, burgundy, brown, purple, blue, rust and gray) and in a large range of sizes 1x - 6x. It is made of 45% Polyester 45% Rayon 10% Spandex and the waist can be worn folded over or completely open. Swak is offering it for $39.99.

I would personally prefer this Tier Boho skirt with a pair of kick-ass boots rather than pumps or flats. How about you?

Igigi Goes Retro

Igigi’s new fall collection is out and it is so hot. They are celebrating the best styles of our past: the tailored suits from the fifties, the bohemian freedom of the sixties, the color blocks of the seventies, the geometric eighties, and the minimalism of the nineties .

Here are my top three items from this new collection:

Tara Scoop Neck Top - This top is shown in “brick” but also comes in plum. It comes in sizes 12 - 32 for $42. It is great on it’s own or as a layering piece; like under their new Dietrich Tailored Jacket.
Alexis Tailored Dress in Gray Herringbone - Gray is such an classy and underestimated color. It is an amazing base for suiting and highlights accessories well. This dress comes in sizes 12 - 32 for $142. It also comes in classic black.

Trumpet Skirt in Black - I absolutely love this skirt. It’s figure hugging but not streamlined. A bit playful without being too sexy for the office. It comes in sizes 12 - 30 for $65.

A Little Flamenco

Does the heat make anyone else tired. I just want to curl up on my desk and snooze. Wouldn’t be prudent so I went shopping instead.

I found this great skirt at Zaftique’s plus size clothing store. There’s something Spanish about it. Or maybe Catherine Zeta Jones-ish from Zorro. A little Flamenco anyone? I love the layers and ruffles. Since they seem to be in for tops why not extend them to skirts.

The skirt comes in sizes 00 - 6Z and retails for $69 - $79 depending on size (I know, I know).

Breezy Skirts

I really hate shops that have skinny models that don’t even look like they are a size 8. Jessica London is one such online store.

They offer plus size clothing in sizes 14 - 34 (that’s a huge size range considering what a lot of other stores are offering) but all the models look like one small size. I guess I shouldn’t start with such a negative tone and then show you a favorite item but I think it had to be mentioned. While surfing the store I felt like I was in a regular shop. I sent in a curvy model request before I left. I think you should all email them and put in similar requests. But make sure you buy something too. There, that kind of balances out my negativity. Onward and forward.

I’m still in my cool and breezy mode so I went with this JL Studio™ Tiered Knit Skirt. It comes in sizes X - 5X and is on sale for $24.99 - $29.99 (the higher price for the higher sizes - I know, I know). It comes in three other colors beside the brown shown: white, khaki and black. The polyester/rayon/spandex blend is machine wash and can work at the office or casual depending what you wear with it. I’m definitely seeing t-shirts with scoop necks so I can be cool.

Hope you are all staying cool!

Sweater and Skirt from Ashley Stewart

I went to Ashley Stewart to check out their new Butteryfly Bra (see link below) and ended up finding today’s favorite find. Two of them. I wasn’t intentionally looking for an outfit but I think these two pieces would look quite nice together. I almost bought them but they don’t ship outside the US.

V-Neck Lurex Sweater - First up is this flirty sweater. I love the variegated lines, the ribbing and the crossover. It comes in sizes 12 - 24 for $29. I so want this sweater. Seriously, I might have to go back and send it to a friend in the States so she can send it to me.

Side Panel Skirt - I like form fitting skirts but I LUV form fittings that are long. It’s so hard to find a long skirt that doesn’t hit mid calf. This denim beauty only comes in sizes 12 - 20 (what’s with that!) and it’s only $34.

I’m seriously loving Ashley Stewart right now.

Retro Skirt

Retro and handmade clothing are both raves right now. Here’s a retro looking skirt handmade with love by Hannah.

The fruit striped skirt is $52 and is available in sizes x-small - 3X. This style comes in a number other patterns but this was was my favorite. There’s a lot going on without it being obscene. Hannah has a good eye.

And I suppose you’re not surprised there are polka dots!

Tucked Underneath

Junonia’s catalogue arrived last week and one of the things that stood out for me was their crinkle nylon skirt.

Not because I find the actual style appealing but because I think the concept of having an inner knit short attached to the skirt not only convenient but practical. We all know what goes on down there when there are no hose. This seems like a carefree way to enjoy the spring and summer months without having to add your own dare I say… bicycle shorts!

Junonia’s main line is active wear so it’s not surprising that they would come up with this idea. This skirt comes in sizes XL - 6X for $69.95. Unfortunately this water repellant and stain resistant skirt is only available in olive. Wouldn’t red be hot? Or black?

Torrid Clearance Week - Bottoms

There are just over 100 bottom options in Torrid’s clearance section. Picking a favorite was a lot easier than the tops yesterday because there were so many similar items, like jeans. But my favorite turned out to be this Brown And Purple Plaid Pleated Skirt (530187).

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the skirt is lined brown and purple. I love the texture of this skirt as well as the off center pleats and buttons. It’s all about the little details. It’s also a good length just above the knee. It’s on clearance for $27.98 (regular $38).

Jean Skirt and Tights

This weekend I went on a boat tour with about 300 people and was surprised to see a similar outfit on a few young women from different parties. I loved the look although I’m probably too old for it.

Now here is making use of good layering. Why didn’t I think of this in high school and college? I probably would have worn more skirts. I like the idea of wearing thigh protectors (tights) that are actually part of the style. Anyone who has worn bicycle shorts under a short skirt knows what I’m talking about.

All these items are from hip plus size retailerTorrid and most are on sale. The skirt is $12.49, the tights are $12.99, the tee is $9.49 and the hoodie is $44. The ballet flats are also from Torrid for $20.

Cute!
