Gabourey Sidibe With Batwings

Last week I mentioned Monif C’s red batwing dress for Valentine’s Day. This week I see the adorable Gabourey Sidibe is wearing the black version on the cover of Ebony with leggings and booties. The Roxie Batwing Dress is available in sizes 1x to 3x for $175.

Valentine’s Dresses

Every girl should have a red dress that screams Happy Valentine’s Day. Here are five of my favorites:

This Raquel Lipstick Red Dress is from B & Lu and is available in sizes 1x to 4x for $59. This retro dress hugs the right cuves and has a panel to accentuate the waist. It looks like something Christina Hendricks’s character from Mad Men might wear.

Plus Size Party Dress From B & Lu

This Quinn Jewel from Kiyonna is on sale for $68. It is available in sizes 0x to 5x. For the conservative woman who is not afraid to tease with a little arm flesh. No exposed waddle here.

This “Roxie” Beaded V-Neck Batwing Dress is from Monif C and is available in sizes 14 to 24 for $175. For the pop star fashionista.

Plus Size Party Dress from Monif C

This limited edition Sienna Dress is from Igigi and is offered in sizes 12 to 28 for $158. Pretty, flowing and flattering.

Plus Size Party Dress from Igigi

This Red Bandage Dress is from Torrid in sizes 2 to 5 for $54. Curve hugging crisscrossing pleats — what’s not to love!

Plus Size at Art Fire

Until tonight I had never heard of Art Fire. Someone posted a link and I followed and ended up with a cute pair of sparkly earrings for $11 (shipping included). Basically from what I’ve seen so far Art Fire is like Etsy where artisans can sell their creations online. Of course while I was looking around I became curious if anyone made plus size clothing. A quick search lead me to these two made-to-order pieces.

The Betsy Sue Dress for $80 is “custom made to your measurements in any type of fabric you like”.

The Cha Cha Pencil Skirt for $40 is custom made up to 2x.

Fall Colors for Convertible Dress

I have adored the convertible dress since it was released and always look forward to seeing the new colors every season. This fall Monif C introduces the usual red and black but adds cobalt, deep purple, and olive (supposedly one of the hottest colors this fall). The convertible dress is a one size fits 8 to 24. It comes in two lengths, the one seen here for $195 and the floor length for $235. So far they have figured out over twenty styles for the convertible dress. My favorite colors? Cobalt and red.

60’s Dress at Anna Scholz

I’ve been less than impressed with the Anna Scholz collection this year (probably because of the hideous kaftans). Normally I love her stuff to death. I have only found two things: 60s-Cotton-Dress

This 60s inspired cotton dress in gold is lovely. The description describes it as a little Jackie O (who had wonderful style) and a little go-go — maybe if it were shorter and you added white boots. I think it would be a great career dress or for a Sunday brunch out but definitely without the go-go boots. The dress is currently on sale for £167 and limited to sizes 12 and 18.

Frill-TrenchcoatThe other item is the Frill Trenchcoat in red. Trench coats have been really hot for a few seasons. I love the color on this one and how she’s changed it up by giving it frilled edges for a softer look. This gives it feminine lines without making it look to girly. The color is awesome and the length perfect. This trench coat is currently £250 and comes in a range of sizes from18 to 28.

Hot Duo from Kiyonna

Kiyonna sent me a list of their top ten sellers for July. I delved over their list and came up with what I consider to be the top two for plus size shoppers. It so happens they both are dresses.

Plus-Size-Dresses-From-Kiyonna

The Celeste Sweetheart dress it’s pretty ruffle below the knee and the rich huckleberry (“I’m your Huckleberry”, yes I’ve been happily ruined by Val Kilmer!) color won me over. It is available in sizes 10 to 32 for $126. It also comes in peacock or black.

The sexy Vivienne Cinch dress in stargazer teal has a delicate ruffle around the neck that continues down the side. It is a nice accent without being over powering or distracting which can some times happens with inappropriate and stiff ruffles. This dress is available in sizes 10 to 32 for $126. If teal isn’t your thing then black or amethyst are options.

Grecian Maxi Dress

What’s better than a maxi dress? Grecian-Maxi-Dress

A Grecian Maxi dress of course! I was looking through Kiyonna’s (luv them) new arrivals and immediately fell for this lovely power purple jersey-knit dress.

Many of the maxi dresses I’ve seen lately are sleeveless so it’s nice to see it with these flutter sleeves which provide coverage but are still breezy. This plus size Grecian Maxi dress comes in sizes 10 to 32 for $129.

It is also nice to see this dress presented with flat sandals. I couldn’t find the same sandals but I found three pair at Shoes.com that I think would fit the bill for a similar look. The first pair is Jessica Simpson’s Carsi (EC1151942) for $82. The second pair are Jack Rodger’s Navjo (EC1180172) for $105. And the last pair are Kenneth Cole’s Landing Glam (EC1176284) for $41.

Mandisa in Soft Green

The lovely Mandisa, best known from the fifth season of American Idol, has been seen walking more than a few red carpets lately. At a recent Idol red carpet event Mandisa was wearing Kiyonna’s Stella Chiffon Party Dress and she looked incredibly beautiful in it too. I love the addition of the thick brown belt and gladiator sandals. The Chiffon dress comes in sizes 10 to 24 for $142 but is selling quickly. It is also available in black. The belt looks like Igigi’s Matte Buckle Belt but they only have it in black now.

The Grammy nominated singer who placed ninth in the Idol competition has not slowed down since her appearance that won her a huge fan base. I remember being so disappointed when she was voted off. I thought it was an injustice at the time but we’ve learned over time that being voted off is not necessarily a bad thing. The girl was is damn talented. Mandisa has released four albums since then; two of which were Christmas themed. There is definitely more music in her future.

Plus Size Asian Dress on eBay

I was on eBay looking for EZcombs (there’s lots there if you’re looking) and some how came across this beautiful Asian inspired dress in plus sizes from Shanghai, China.

This Chinese silk satin party dress has a open back with halter closure at neck and an extra long slit up the slide of the leg for the woman who likes to show off her gams.

I think this is a lovely dress and was happily surprised to see it was available in sizes 3x to 6x. Bidding started at 99 cents on this and there’s three days left to go! It comes with a reasonable shipping cost.

There’s always good deals to be found for plus size clothing on eBay even when you’re not expecting to find them.

My Monif C Wish List

Monif C has always been one of my favorite designers from day one. I may not like all of her designs but I admit to liking most.

Monif C has a few new items for this season (and some recurring favorites) and of course I’ve already chosen my favorites. You might remember the red ruffle dress I mentioned last week as being one.

Going through her online collection I have to say that these are my top three wants on my Monif C Wish List:

  1. “Liza” Cobalt Blue Beaded Silk Maxi Gown
  2. “Marilyn” Long Convertible Dress 97
  3. “Labelle” Zipper Dress in Coral

As always, looking forward to seeing more.

Note: Robyn Volker from ChiqueLife sent me a coupon for 15% off the Marilyn dress at Monif C that expires May 18, 2009. The coupon code is: MONIFC.
