How to Use the Convertible Dress

There’s no doubt that Monif C’s Convertible Marilyn Dress is the most versatile piece on the market. There are a few basic colors but usually new colors are introduced each season. It comes in a long or short version that can be used as a party dress, wedding dress, brides maid dresses, New Year’s dress… it is endless. Because the dress fits sizes 8 to 24 you pretty much always know you’ll have something that fits wheather you are up or down ten pounds. The dress costs $195 which seems like a lot for one dress but not for 22 — that works out to almost $9 per dress.

Here’s the latest instruction video from Monif on how to wear the many faces of this dress whether long or short. I bet you can come up with more.

The Affordable Maxi Dress

Old Navy has jumped on the maxi dress bandwagon. Ok, they had one dress; but it’s cute and it’s affordable.

The Crochet-Trim Maxi Dress comes in the blue of nightlife. I especially like the draw string and crochet trim. It’s a nice casual sun dress for staying cool in. The plus sizes available for this dress range from 16 to 24. It’s regular price is $39.50 but it is on sale for $34.99.

The straps are pretty thin so you’ll need to dig out the invisible bra straps or go strapless underneath. Please don’t do the colored bra thing or the bra less thing (going bra less in public in a sun dress or at all gives the rest of us a bad name — unless you’re a celebrity).

Hope you all are having fun and staying cool.

Colorblock Tank Dress

I love summer dresses but I find so many of them tend to be patterned. No, I have nothing against the right pattern. Color blocked dresses, plus size or otherwise, like this one from Ulla Popken give the eye a break from the busy visual stimulation that a repetitive all over pattern tends to lend. And if the colors are in the right spot (like they are with this dress) it can look like you are wearing more than one piece.

This Colorblock Knit Tank Dress (92277) comes in combination sizes 12/14 to 32/34 for $89. It also comes in a grey top, white sash, black skirt. The dress is made from machine washable “slinky vicose rayon” which offers a lovely drape and provides an elegant dance around the body when the wearer moves.

I love the incorporation of the sash which could be left hanging to draw the eye down or wrapped again to define the waist. It looks great with the glad sandals or with a spring espadrille.

Tribal Knit Dress

I may be pushing it a bit early but with the warm weather I’ve been getting lately, how can I not. Sundresses and shaved legs have made it around the corner!

I’m not exactly sure what makes this “tribal” but I love it anyway. Having two patterns that compliment one another helps to prevent that strange phenomena that happens to your eyes when someone is dressed in the same pattern from head to toe.

This is a lovely flowing dress that comes in sizes 12 – 34 from Ulla Popken, a place I should check in on more often. They have many interesting looking pieces that I haven’t seen anywhere else.

$75 Convertible Dress

Do you like rose pink? Plus size designer Monif C has their rose pink convertible dress on for $75 which is a huge savings for a dress which normally sells for $195. It’s a change of season so they are clearing out old colors to make room for new ones.

Haven’t heard of the convertible dress. Well this dress, also tagged the Marilyn dress (think Seven Year Itch), is a marvel for plus size dresses. This dress is good for a club, wedding, party, or cruisewear. with over twenty different looks I’m sure you can think of more.

This is one of Monif C’s hottest products and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what she’ll be known for for the next few years. Every season they come out with fabulous colors and a few basics. It fits sizes 8 – 24.

Island Fever Delaney Dress

As I mentioned yesterday, this week is Island Fever Week care of Kiyonna. Today’s highlight is their Delaney Dress.

I love the vintage Roman print and the fact it is 100% cotton. Nice and comfortable for the remaining days of summer. I don’t know about you but it’s hot here until October. What you don’t see is the smocking back which makes this dress a simple pull-over. I’m not sure if the belt is attached or can be removed but having it on helps breaks up the pattern and provide an alternative interest.

It looks great alone, with a shrug, pashmina or with a black career jacket. This lovely dress comes in sizes 0x – 5x for $148. (I dig those shows too!)

Cool and Breezy

I so need cool and breezy today. I feel a little more comfortable just looking at this summery dress from Jessica London. It’s listed as a coverup but I think it’s a perfectly acceptable sun dress for an afternoon brunch with friends or family.

It’s made with soft loop terry which isn’t necessarily cool but it is comfy. I love the smocking at the brest, the puff shoulder (if it was completely smocked across the top it would be a disaster, remember those smocked dresses you wore as a kid), and the large ruffle (for lack of a better term) at the bottom.

It comes in sizes 0 – 3X and is on sale for $34.99.

Orange – The Dress

I’m feeling summerery today. It actually felt like the beginning of the season. It was quite warm and humid. But the cool nights are a great indicator of the pending changes and the I’m starting to see a hint in the trees of fall. The continued warm weather still has me in summer mode though so it’s not surprising that today’s favorite pick has a warm summer feeling to it.

When I was over at Big on Batik I found this great off the shoulder smock dress in orange (of course) with white floral pattern for $75.

It’s a beautiful fun dress for the remaining warm days of summer. It even comes with a convenient wrap should you get chilly. It has a flattering cut and shows off a lot of skin without being vulgar or too plunging (there’s always time for that later!).

As the description says it’s great for picnics and outdoor parties. And of course it has one of my favorite features: it’s washable. It’s made of rayon so it’s guaranteed to be soft and silky on your summer-ized skin. It is a one size fits many cut for 1x-4x. I expect it’s probably made on the small side though. And if you’re not keen on or-ange it comes in a variety of other colors.
