$200 Making It Big Giveaway

This month’s giveaway is special in more ways than one. Making It Big is offering one lucky reader a $200 Gift Certificate for shopping at their website. That in itself is exciting but I’m also excited about the changes at Making It Big over the last year. They have always been a leader in offering plus size and extended size clothing but frankly I haven’t “loved” their clothing because I felt it lacked the shaping that plus size bodies deserve. They have made profound changes in their styles and I’m very proud of their progress and growth of their new line. If you have never heard of Making It Big (MIB): plus size career clothing from Making It Big

“Founded in 1984, MiB designs plus size clothing for women who want to celebrate their curves in style. MiB offers quality made clothing in luxurious fabrics in sizes 22-48 (2x-8x). Offering everything from beautiful blouses to everyday pants, MiB prides themselves on being the leader in quality, fit & service in the plus size clothing world.”

Plus Size Red Coats

While blue is my favorite color, I tend to buy a lot of red but one of the things I really want in red this season is a fall/winter coat. I tried looking locally but all I could find was a lot of boxy black. I hate boxy winter coats. A/ cold air always travels up the back and defeats the purpose of wearing the coat in the first place and B/ layering and plus size just doesn’t look nice with a boxy jacket. In my opinion boxy just looks bulky without the advantage of added warmth.

I searched through some of my favorite online stores and came up with some plus size red coats as possibilities.

Making It Big has a simple double breasted A-line wool coat for $169. The good thing about them is they offer sizes up to 8x.

Evans’s has two I’m partial too. A hooded duffle coat for £45 and a skirted mac for £55. Both are available in sizes 14 to 32. I love the duffle because it’s cute and practical and the mac because it’s so damn pretty.

Jessica London actually has a lot of red coats in comparison to other shops so it is not surprising that I have a few favorites from there. There’s the ¾-length red leather coat for $140 in sizes 14 to 28 and the wool pea coat (I love peacoats) in ruby (there are nine other colors) for $120 in sizes 12 to 32. (A little off topic but they have a lots of great patterned coats — think houndstooth.)

A a wool-aline pea coat from One Stop Plus for $70 in sizes 14 to 32. It actually comes in six other colors if red isn’t your thing.

And finally there’s this deep red topper coat from JC Penny for $113 in sizes 1x to 3x. It even comes with the scarf.

Of all the reds I think the duffle from Evans is my absolute favorite. In terms of style, the wool peacoat from Jessica London is tops. Have you seen a gorgeous red coat anywhere?

Plus Size Pregnancy Swimwear

Plus size pregnancy clothing is hard to find but it is out there as I’ve shown last week. But even harder than every day seasonal wear is trying to find plus size maternity swimwear. And if you are above a 3x and pregnant it is almost impossible.

Crybaby Maternity – Of all the shops I visited I think they have the absolute cutest plus size maternity swimwear. The downside is they are pricey, reaching up to $118 or more. Their plus sizes go up to 3x. The swimsuit at right is from here.

Motherhood Maternity – At the time of this posting I found two plus size maternity swimsuits; both perfectly acceptable looking and reasonably priced under $40 in sizes 1x to 3x.

Motherwear – They have four plus size swimsuits in sizes 1x to 3x for $69 to $73. I especially like the white polka dot on chocolate Not Your Gramma’s Swimsdress.

Big Gals Lingerie – If you are not afraid to show off your pregnant belly then you must check out BGL. Yes, it is mostly lingerie and costumes; but they also have my favorite plus size bikini. The Metallic Polka Dot Scrunch Butt Bikini is custom made in sizes 1x to 12x for $44 and comes in about ten color combinations.

Love Your Peaches – They have more than a few bikini styles to choose from as well as a basic bottom and swim shorts. Each style has a wonderful choice of solid or print fabrics to choose from. They range in price from $38 to $76 and run in sizes 1x to 6x. They take style/cut recommendations so if there is nothing there suitable for maternity drop them an email to see what they are willing to do.

Here’s hoping you stay cool this summer!

Time for the Trench Coat

It’s the perfect time of the year to start thinking about outerwear. In some places better sooner than later as you never know what is going to hit. I found this sassy trench coat from Love Your Peaches that is fashsionable flattering and washable.

This Princess Coat takes solar fleece to a whole new level with it’s design. It is very generous around the bottom for those times when you just want to twirl. And attached shawl collar, welted pockets and tapering at the waist finish it off. It comes in four colors: red, charcoal (shown), cobalt and black. It is available in sizes 1x – 6x for $140.

Kimono Like Top

I was researching a few supersize clothing stores last night and fell in love with this Ansley blouse at Making it Big. They have a different sizing system over there. The blouse is available in sizes E to K which according to their size chart translates to 2X to 8X. This blouse has a kimono-ish look to it which I love. And it is a fabulous color.

A great cut for fall and is one of those styles that would work equally well with a pair of jeans or career pants. It is available for $89.
