Union Jack Tops

Having the Olympics in London has made the Union Jack a little trendier than usual, even now that the games are overs. I have always liked it on tees and messengers bags.

More Cold Shoulder Tops

A few weeks ago I mentioned the influx of cold-shoulder tops; especially the dressy ones from Kiyonna. Well the influx has not stopped. There seems to be cold shoulder tops around every corner but with the heat I am definitely not complaining.

Lane Bryant has some real winners in their plus size casual top collection that I really like:

While she cuts over the arm and shoulder seam I would probably only cut the arm section because plus size tops tend to fit us differently. But if you have a lot of old tees, experiment!

The King

I laugh every time I see this t-shirt from Threadless (The King by Alex Solis). You need to have some working knowledge of the Disney movie The Lion King and Elvis Presley, the “King of Rock and Roll”, to truly appreciate the humor and cuteness of this design.

Orange is an incredibly bright color and not everyone can wear it but I do understand why it was chosen — at least in my mind — it is the perfect sunset color; but I think yellow would have been nice too.

Threadless t-shirts are the perfect no-fuss-dressing for jeans (or cut offs) summer day kind of dressing. And they always make great conversation pieces. I once had a doctor comment on a Threadless shirt I was wearing to an appointment. You never know who wears Threadless.

Larger Sizes from Daphne

There is a New York fashion house called Daphne that has a unique selection of tops for larger sized women. Some of the items are not in all sizes so I imagine it is a bit older stock but the majority of the items are 1x to 5x. Here are a few of my favorites from their high-end fashion tops:

Kaftan Love

For years when I saw the word “kaftan” on a shopping site I cringed. I grew up with a vision of kaftans (or caftans) as the large boxy polyester day dresses with crazy prints on them that stay-at-home older people lounged in (not necessarily fat people either because I had an skinny aunt who lived in hers).

The term kaftan is widely used in the UK for tops but they certainly have come a long way from the kaftans in my nightmares. The term is now being widely used in the U.S. except it is spelled with a “c”. Eloquii has some of the finest caftan tops I have seen. Here are a few of my favorites:

Casual Looks from Eileen Fisher

Eileen Fisher’s clothing is made of sustainable silks, linens, cottons, and hemp; pricey but beautiful to wear. I may not like every season’s offerings but that is not so this season which makes me think of classic comfort by design. I love the complete look of these four outfits but there are specific items that really stand out for me.

Fashion to Figure Upgrade

I have not been to Fashion to Figure website in ages. Frankly I just did not like most of the items they carried and lost interest. Through my wayward travels I ended up there and immediately fell in love with the new look of the site and the clothes. It seemed like I was falling in love with every second or third item in their new arrivals — dresses, tops, jackets… there are lots of interesting pieces to choose from in sizes 1x to 3x.

Threadless Monday

I have not had a Threadless day in a while. Since they are currently $9.95 (until June 27th) it seemed like a good day to do one. The three categories for today are: humor, romance, and zombies (I know you are not surprised by that one):

Humor Tee

The Marshmallow Factory by Dave E. Phillips features one of everyone’s favorite mystical beings, the unicorn. It is quite logical that it would poop colored marshmallows.

Romantic Tee

The Star-Cross’d Lovers by Alice X. Zhang and Chow Hon Lam features a magical mermaid and angel/god/x-man (take your pick) who have fallen in love. I wonder why they have not made a movie about this yet?

Zombie Tee

And Lawn of the Dead by Anna-Maria Jung features a few zombies enjoying the outdoors. It had me at the title. A little bit Dawn of the Dead meets Plants vs Zombies.

Cold-Shoulder Tops

Cold-shoulder tops, where the shoulders peek out through a slit in the shoulder of an other wise covered arm, have popped up here and there over the years but this spring and summer they have become one of the go to tops for comfortably baring a little skin.

One of my favorite cold-shoulder tops from Kiyonna at the moment is the Kendra Cold-Shoulder Top. The Kendra top comes in four color options, Graphic Print (my absolute fave), Coral, Violet, or Black — the last three have a subtle dot pattern in the fabric.

I have been following SwakDesigns for a few years now and it has been fun to watch them grow. Tonight when I was surfing their website I was really impressed to see how sophisticated and fun their website and designs have become.
