10 Things To Do For Your Valentine
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about gifts. There are other things you can do that are just as appreciative.
- Write a love note. Or two or three leading up to V-day.
- Make her/him supper, lunch, or breakfast in bed.
- Give a foot massage (without receiving one in return).
- Tell her/him ten nice things about themselves throughout the day, i.e. “I love your smile”, “I love the way you care for your parents (children)”, “You are so good at…”
- Clean up after yourself (yeah, you should do this all year round but really make an effort this weekend).
- Take her/him for a romantic walk (hold hands).
- Spend time alone talking about your dreams together over tea.
- Make her/him a snow angel!
- Bake her/him a batch of their favorite cookies.
- Clean out the kitty litter pan (I think this screams true love).
The ideas were getting slim near the end but you get the idea. Add some serious and not so serious ones in the comments.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
A Week of Valentine’s
Valentine’s Day is less than twenty days away! All this week I’ll be featuring my favorite Valentine’s buys. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be partnered to appreciate my sexy and pretty plus size clothing picks. Valentine’s Day is another excuse to shop. Shhh…
This week I’ll be sharing my favorites from:
What can you expect to see? A lot of red! Happy Valentine’s Day ladies (and gents).
My Favorite Golden Globe Dresses 2010
I wasn’t going to watch. I was ignoring the twittering about it as it passed but when I flipped on the tube there was the pre-show to the Golden Globes and I was hooked until 11 p.m.
The most common colors seemed to be black and deep red. I was surprised to see so many one shoulder black dresses. There was nothing I found absolutely fabulous or beyond belief but here are a few of my favorites.
Penelope Cruz’s figure hugging black lace.
Sandra Bullock’s purple “plastic”. Seriously, I heard her call it that.
Sofia Vergara’s grey with red accent, great giant ruffle.
Tina Fey’s multi-directional stripes.
Mo’nique’s flowing gold.
Toni Collette’s gold highways.
Helen Mirren simple black sweetheart.
Cameron Diaz’s bright red fooler.
Sophia Loren’s sparkly shoulders.
Gabourey Sidibe flowing jade.
Amy Poehler scarlet red over the shoulder rosette.
And Julianne Margulies deep red cut out.
New Year’s Resolutions for 2010
“I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the year’s.” ~ Henry Moore
This quote pretty much sums up how I feel about New Year resolutions. Rather than using the beginning of the year for setting myself up for not succeeding in my lofty goals of the previous year and then making more of the same goals. I would rather continue to look at what I’m doing daily and weekly throughout the year and adjust myself accordingly.
But there is something to be said for jumping on the January band wagon when it comes to clothing.
I have some to-dos for the coming year. Some I’m continuing from previous years and some are new.
- Clean out my closet
- Give away at least 10% of my clothes to charity
- Try wearing a new color
- Spend less on shoes
- Reduce my fad buys by 50%
- Pay more attention
- Invest wisely
What is on the to-do list for your closet this year?
Looking Good for Less
Even though this video reel from Kathryn Finney, The Budget Fashionista, was made in 2007 it still offers a lot of fashion tips in 2 minutes that are usable in 2010. It’s quick so keep an eye and an ear open:

New Year’s Closet Resolutions
Every new year while others are making resolutions for their bodies I’m making ones for my closet. Most of which I’m pretty good at keeping throughout the year. My closet is probably the best organized place in the house. This year my New Year resolutions for my closet are:
- For every new item I hang in my closet I will give at least one item that I haven’t worn in the last six months away. This is an ongoing goal that I have been pretty good at for the last few years. I highly recommend it.
- This year I will try a color outside your comfort zone — or perhaps multiple colors, as in more patterns. I’m still considering my color options.
- I will give my closet a thorough spring, fall, and winter cleaning. This will of course include vacuuming, dusting, organizing, and downsizing as necessary.
- I will not organize my clothing by color. That way my husband can’t tease me about my limited color choices (he doesn’t get the variance of color — i.e. teal, aqua etc) when I buy another, red, blue, green, black, or grey top.
- This year I will try organizing by sleeve and pant length and casual and dressy.
What is a new year resolution you have for your wardrobe for 2010?
Merry Christmas
All the best to you and yours!

Gifts for the Plus Size
There are a fraction of gift buyers who think it is unfashionable to give a gift certificate for Christmas (or any other occasion) but it is actually one of the best presents to give and to receive.
- the receiver can choose what they want
- the giver doesn’t have to worry about a return
- the receiver they doesn’t have to go through the hassle of a return
- they are easy to buy in a pinch
- they are environmentally friendly (save on wrapping)
There is nothing better than the gift of choice. Here is a list of my top five favourite places to get gift certificates for plus size women:
- Amazon
– clothing and so much more!
- Hips and Curves – every one should have sexy under things
- Lane Bryant
– for every day head to toe
- Torrid
– for trendy and affordable (and rocking boots!)
- Junonia
– everything for the active plus size woman
Unless you know the person you are shopping for absolutely hates shopping (including online) then gift certificates are perfect gifts for the plus size fashionista whether she is outward or in hiding.
Have fun shopping for someone else! And share with us a great place you love to get gift certificates for plus size women.
B-Day
It’s my birthday today so I’m taking the day off sale collecting to focus on wrapper, cake, and blowing out candles. Have a great weekend!

Makeover Madness
It seems like every one is getting a make over this summer and/or heading into fall.
- Venus Diva Mag is evolving, this September it will officially launch Daily Venus Diva with Stephanie Penn-Danforth as the new editor.
- Catherines
/ Lane Bryant
/ FashionBug
– The Charming Shoppes triple threat had a huge renovation on all three of their plus size sites. Probably Fashion Bug’s was the greatest moving from three separate size designations to one size range of 6 to 30. Lane Bryant gave theirs a face lift and added a plus size community to theirs.
- Torrid.com
– This trendy website went a little higher tech with the visual and is easier to use.
- Skorch -They went on a bit of a hiatus near the end of last year but they are back bigger and stronger than ever conducting model searches across the U.S. and preparing for their first print publication December 1st. A one year subscription in the U.S. is $25. Hopefully Canada soon.
- Liz Claiborne
– Their plus size line kind of disappeared last year but now it’s back fresher and brighter than ever along with a better customer friendly site.
If you haven’t been to these places lately I recommend checking out the new digs. Have you noticed any other of your favorite plus size sites getting a makeover?
